Urban Daybreak, Bangsar

Urban Daybreak first started out in Georgetown, Penang then branched out to Bangsar, KL! The cafes theme draws inspiration from Australian brunch styled dishes and has always been my go to if I wanted to dine in a cafe or splurge on food I know will not let me down in taste.

Mandy (staff) who was very welcoming greeted us immediately when we arrived outside waiting to be seated. She briefed us thoroughly from how we could order to where we should pay and how their SOP works. Thank you, Mandy!

Signature French Toast (RM24)
If you love french toast and you have a sweet tooth, this dish would probably be your go to! I'm more of a savoury person in the morning but I have to say, having a little of this didn't hurt at all, obviously not the most nutritious but very hearty in taste. Bananas were nicely caramelised, bacon gave it a nice salty kick to cut through all the sweet notes. I never thought of pairing peanut butter with french toast. House made peanut butter was good, not too sweet and real smooth.

Fried Chicken Waffle (RM28.50)
I hear this dish is a real crowd pleaser here! Their chicken kaarage was really crunchy and juicy. Sunny side ups still had their runny golden yolks upon being served. Their waffles were flavoursome and homemade tasting. Although not the crunchiest, it definitely did not lack in flavour.

BBQ Glazed Meatloaf (RM30)
If you're a fan of sweet and savoury dishes like me... you should really order their meatloaf! It resembles a little of Ikea's Swedish Meatballs with cranberry jam. Only with this dish, it's their meatloaf and chill jam! Chilli jam was sweet and not spicy at all, asparagus had a nice bite to it, definitely not overcooked. Their meatloaf was just really full of flavour and the dish really just came together with their BBQ glaze. Would order this again if I'm over for lunch next time!

Urban's Really Big Breakfast (RM36.50)
A very, very big breakfast indeed. The portion size for this dish (in my opinion) could feed for two! Most of the time when I visit their Penang branch I would always have their big breakfast because you get a little of everything on the plate! Carbs, protein and fibre all on one platter! I love their homemade sausage. Their scrambled eggs were really flavourful as well,  I like mine a little less cooked than pictured above (it's all personal preference) but still yummy!

Liver Detox (RM15)
Of the many juice combinations I've had... my favourite would be the Liver Detox that includes a mixture of beetroot, carrot, ginger and apple! Ginger? In a juice? Who would have thought. The ginger was in no way over powering at all, it just gives a slight kick at the end of every sip but if you're not a fan of ginger, you can always request for it to be excluded. That whole cup was just juice! Portion size of the juice was good and generous.

Simple modern interior inside, would have loved to sit outside if not Covid. Something about having your meal in the open air with the sunny sun shining on a weekend morning not having to rush off to work. Space is quite limited so expect a little wait before entering.

Overall, I could sense the effort and thinking put into each dish and their whole concept of an Australian themed brunch. Simple meals done well. I've tried their avocado smash, scramble trouble, hash and eggs, chorizo pasta, waffles at its best and their continental croissant on different occasions. None of which have let me down in taste during my visits.

Both branches are equally as packed during the weekends so make sure you plan your visit thoughtfully.
