OO White Coffee Cafe, Penang

If there’s one place we always make sure we visit when in Penang, its OO White Coffee! We will not leave Penang until we’ve had our fix of beef noodles and cham peng. PERIOD! As of today, OO White Coffee has a total of 4 branches!

A middle aged Chinese lady runs this shop along with her helpers. She is really a very friendly and youthful aunty. In general, most merchants at this particular outlet are very warm and accommodating so I always feel happy whenever I pay a visit.

Gu Bak Koay Teow (RM 11 - Small)
Hands down the best Gu Bak Koay Teow! I've made a number of soups and I can assure you that this particular soup has been boiling away for hours that has resulted in a beefy umami broth. The portion of beef served is generous, fresh and tender to the bite when being chewed and not once have I ever felt like this dish was too heavy in salt. I feel nourished every time I have this and its also a healthier alternative to your usual fried hawker dishes. The chilli served alongside with the Koay Teow is not spicy at all, chilli lovers will be disappointed with the spice level. Other than the chilli, the dish itself is just a win win! Just bear in mind that if you come towards closing, around 4 pm the broth that they serve will  not be as smooth or clean tasting as the remnants of bones at the bottom of the soup pot are not sieved upon serving. Resulting in a thick and cloudy soup.

Oh Chien (RM 9)
If you would like a twist to your usual Oh Chien or if you are a fan of crunchy, this is a great alternative. Sadly, I didn't really enjoy this as much because of how much oil this dish was covered in. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the taste of this Oh Chien but the oil was just overpowering and unpleasant.

Cham Peng (RM 3.2)
Only just recently I’ve become more of a Cham Peng drinker. The coffee and tea served here has a rich and delicious consistency whilst being fragrant! Drinks here are served in a nostalgic stainless steel cup and a separate glass of ice. The idea here is a hands on experience in pulling your own coffee or tea which I admit is pretty fun! The people who served our drinks were so friendly and accommodating, I feel like if your food or drinks don’t taste like the best but your customer service stands out, people will always make their way back to that specific stall or restaurant.

Long time ago, OO White Coffee was not as packed as how it is today! So please please come during odd times to enjoy the Gu Bak Koay Teow so that you don't have to stand and wait under the hot sun! Waiting can be really extensive during breakfast and lunch hours.
