Jade Palace Dim Sum House, Penang
I've never heard of anyone turn down a Dim Sum brunch, ever! It was a treat from my beloved uncle, so I was even more happy to have the food with my family. Thank you, Ah Khoo.

Cheong Fun (Rice Noodle Rolls)
Cheong Fun is essentially steamed rice noodle rolls that are usually filled with prawns, char siew or a vegetarian filling. Cheong Fun served was translucent and silky smooth, the soya sauce used was a excellent choice as it hit the right umami notes. Generously filled with plump, fresh prawns. Every mouthful had a bite of it! The dried prawn and chili paste gave it an extra lift but without it, simply delicious as well! I feel like their choice of plate could be different as I found it difficult to scoop some soya sauce. Presentation fell flat for this dish, perhaps some fried shallots for garnish and vegetables underneath would please the eye and make it more wholesome! Other than that, would order this again!

Har Gaw (Prawn Dumplings)
The har gao skins here and generally all the other Dim Sum skins are really well made! Translucent and not thick at all. Filled generously with prawns. This dish and Siu Mai are my usual orders when I dine for Dim Sum and this was exceptionally made. Excellent wrapping skills.

A staple Dim Sum dish that we never fail to order. Siu Mai is usually filled with pork and prawns which sometimes, are minced together or prawns are kept whole. The filling over here is a prawn and pork mince!

Prawn and Scallop Dumpling
This too, was something new to us. This tasted almost exactly like Har Gaw but with an addition of a scallop and some fish roe. I didn't really enjoy the fish roe on any of the dishes as it didn't look or taste like fresh roe.

Prawn and Spinach Dumpling
I've never had these before so we ordered to try and these were good! Dumplings were filled with a layer of spinach on the inside and stuffed with prawns. No nasty vegetable taste at all, ingredients are fresh and cooked to perfection as the spinach was bright green and prawns, succulent!

Loh Mai Gai (Glutinous Rice)
We love a good Loh Mai Gai and this was delicious! This was a soft and less compact version (you could tell apart the grains) to our normal sticky compact type! Either way, both are equally as appetizing! A generous mixture of pork, cha siu, a medium sized shitake mushroom and sliced lap cheong (chinese sausage). We truly enjoyed this very much!

Delicious egg tarts that had a flaky and crisp base with a smooth and silky custardy egg filling.

Bean curd Prawn
Over here, prawns are not kept whole but minced up. Bean curd used was thin, crunchy and crisp! Would have preferred the extra empty iconic ends that make this dish fun! Picture it like a sweet wrapper!

Salad Prawn Dumplings
This is my most anticipated dish when I dine for Dim Sum but unfortunately over here, they use wonton wrappers for their salad prawn dumplings which I was so sad about.. cries. It's usually traditionally made of a specific pastry that just melts in your mouth. This dumpling (when properly made) dipped in some mayonnaise... will bring you to a whole new level of delish. I really wanted this to be my favourite dish here but unfortunately it's a no no from me!

Cha Siu Bao (Pork Buns)
Mini cute char siew baos that stole my heart! Filling is nice and sweet, I would have preferred it less saucy with more chunks of meat but other than that, a really good bao. I can see kids and adults enjoying every bite of this! This dish was a hit with my family!

Xiao Long Bao ( Soup Dumplings)
I enjoyed the xiao long bao here although there were inconsistencies in terms of the shape and size of the bao and how soupy they were. We ordered 2 baskets that came at separate times. My mother said that these were not as soupy as how it should be so she didn't enjoy it as much as I did. By the shape of it you can tell that there's more meat to soup ration. I believe they can improve on their wrapping skills for this specific dumping. The julienned ginger and vinegar dip gave this dish a nice acidity!

Char Siu
This is said to be one of their best sellers! I believe this was the same Cha Siu used in their baos. The Cha Siu served here is more on the sweeter side, which I enjoy! It is not the melt-in-your-mouth type as its a more meatier cut but I enjoyed every bite nonetheless. Would have loved to have this with rice and maybe try this with some chili, to see if it would have tasted more savory.
I'll touch a little on their service. As their dumplings are made to order, most of our dishes were not simultaneously served so it was a long wait. Their dining area is high-ceilinged and spacious, from the kitchen to our table, both at opposite ends, it is quite a walk. Maybe more waiters would have been better? Or better allocation planning on who serves and takes orders and where to standby for additional orders. Food was good but better service would have made the experience a more pleasant one!
